RAFIKI TEACHES US ABOUT HUMILITY!!
Rafiki was found as a pup, running along the bayou in Conroe before she was picked up by an animal control agency. The agency identified her as a wolf hybrid and contacted St. Francis Wolf Sanctuary for placement. There was however, a little bit of a delay in getting her here. Rafiki was at the animal control when there was an outbreak of the Parvovirus. Parvo is a disease found in the canine family that attacks rapidly growing cells. The most rapidly growing cells with dogs and wolfs are those the intestinal lining. Although we keep the vaccinations of the wolves up to date, it was decided that caution was the best route. Rafiki stayed with animal control for about two months until we knew that she was not at risk, then we welcomed her home.
Rafiki has been at the sanctuary for almost four years and she is very gentle and sweet towards humans. She can at times be a little skittish but that is very normal wolf behavior.
This lovely wolf took on the role of surrogate mother to the new wolf boys, Romulus and Remus when they arrived. They ran and played together and she was always sure to teach them the proper way to talk to others. With this experience, Rafiki blossomed into a wonderful, loving mother!!!
